Large Gaps in Urban-Suburban High School Graduation Rates
The NY Times article "Large Urban-Suburban Gap Seen in Graduation Rates" reports on the results of a study prepared for the Americas Promise Alliance and the Gates foundation which find large differences between high school graduation rates in cities and suburbs. The largest difference, between suburb and city, 42%, is found in Cleveland (80% in suburbs versus 38% in city). Indianapolis had the lowest high school graduation rate (30%). The good news, overall the 50 largest city average graduation rate did in increase between 1995 and 2005 by 4.4%.
