Teens have been hit particularly hard in the recession. As an article in the LA times "Teens and young adults find a harsh job market" reports, in California, with an overall unemployment rate of 11.2%, teenage unemployment was a 27.8%. With a minimum wage of $8.00 per hour in California it would be interesting to know whether and by how much teen unemployment could be lowered by reducing the minimum wage to the federal minimum wage, which will be increased to $7.25 in late July.
