A program called reach gives students up to $1000 for passing an AP exam. The NY times article, "In Program Giving Cash, More Pass A.P. Tests" reports that the program was offered at 26 public schools and 5 catholic schools and that the number of students passing AP exams rose from 1,161 to 1,240. It would have been nice if they would have had a better research design so that the could more convincingly demonstrate the effectiveness of the cash incentive. Maybe they have one, but it was not discussed in the article.
