To help counteract the childhood obesity problem in the US, the Federal government is proposing changes in the nutrition content of school meals. As reported in the CNN article "Feds to tighten school nutrition standards" saturated fat would be restricted to less than 10 percent of the total calories in school meals and Trans fat would be eliminated. The change comes on the heels of a new law enacted in December meant to encourage better eating habit by, among other things, giving the federal government control over food sold in vending machines and elsewhere on school grounds.
