Many high school seniors who plan to attend college next fall have had to recently decide what university they will attend among those institutions that they have been admitted to. A large number of colleges and universities require students who have been accepted to decide whether or not they will attend by May 1st. As the NY Times article "The Price Tag of a ‘Safety’ School Enhances Its Allure" reports, price may weigh heavily in a student's decision. Private universities and out-of-state public universities are typically more expensive than in-state public universities which leads many students to accept the admission offer at their in-state institution even when they have also been admitted to more prestigious, but more expensive, institutions.
